Many people are familiar with the Ultrasound that pregnant women have to 'see' their baby and ensure it is developing normally.  The process we use is very similar to that.  The equipment we use allows us to view the interior of your vessels in order to assist Physicians in identifying underlying conditions that may be affecting your health.  The procedure is painless and quick. 

 Definition - Duplex:  "A combination of Doppler and  ultrasound that enables the technologist  to see and 'hear' the blood flow in your arteries and veins.

Your Physician may have ordered tests at Barrie Vascular Imaging for one or more of the following reasons:

• to analyse blood flow (Arteries deliver oxygen rich blood from the heart to tissue and organs - Veins return the blood to the heart and lungs)

• to detect vascular disease - to determine the degree of disease (plaque) within the vessels

• to analyse pre-op or post-op status in order to identify possible complications

Some of the tests we perform are:

Vascular  Ultrasound (Duplex) Examinations -  

• Carotid - Assessment of artery blood flow in neck that feeds the brain

• Arterial - Legs and/or Arms - Assessment of artery blood flow in legs or arms

• Venous - Legs and/or Arms - Assessment of venous blood flow in legs or arms

• Arterial - Venous Dialysis Graft

• Thoracic Outlet - Assessment of arteries and venous in the thoracic outlet area

Abdominal Ultrasound (Duplex) Examinations

• Renal (The Arteries that supply blood to the kidneys, bladder and urethra)

• Mesenteric (Three arteries that branch from the aorta.  They carry oxygen rich blood to the small and large intestines)

• Aorta/Iliac  (The largest artery in the body, it supplies oxygen rich blood to the head and neck, the arms, the major organs in the chest and abdomen then branches into two arteries (Iliac) to the legs)
